[en] A deformable daggerboard or foil 1 comprises deformable side walls 3. The daggerboard is constructed with a central structural plate and two tapered side walls. The rear 2 of the side walls may be thicker in width than the front of the side walls. The deformable daggerboard may comprise a rope pulley mechanism, incorporating three pulleys (9, 10, 21, Fig 3), on each side wall. A cover section comprising two cleats (8, Fig 2) may be provided at an upper end (6, Fig 2) of the daggerboard. Tension may be applied to rope (7, Fig 2) secured to either sidewall, which increases the camber on that side of the daggerboard or foil, with the rope then being locked off in the cam cleats. The daggerboard may improve the upwind performance of a sailing dinghy (13, Fig 4(a)) by approximately 5%.
