A system and method for treating a formation in situ comprises providing a mixture of fuel (such as hydrogen, methane, ethane, and/or other hydrocarbons) and oxidising fluid to a plurality of oxidizers 1270 of an oxidizer assembly 1268 in a formation for ignition and combustion to produce heat to heat the formation. Exhaust gas 1280 from one of the oxidizers is mixed with oxidising fluid provided to another of the oxidizers. Five or more oxidizers 1270 may be configured to be placed in an opening in the formation with fuel conduits 1274 configured to provide fuel 1272 and oxidizer conduits 1278 to provide oxidizing fluid 1276 to the oxidizers 1270. The conduits are configured to provide a portion of exhaust gas 1280 from at least one of the oxidizers to be mixed with a portion of the oxidizing fluid provided to another one of the oxidizers.
