A process for production of an olefin polymer having long chain branching is described. The process comprises the step of polymerizing an olefin monomer in the presence of a catalyst system comprising: a catalyst comprising a compound containing vanadium with the proviso that the compound does not comprise a halogen directly bound to the vanadium; an organoaluminum cocatalyst having a halogen to aluminum molar ratio in the range of from about 1 to about 2; and an activator having Formula I: wherein: R is selected from the group comprising a substituted or unsubstituted C1-C10 alkyl, a substituted or unsubstituted C5-C20 aryl group and a substituted or unsubstituted C3-C20 cycloalkyl group, with the proviso that the moiety -C(O)OR may be substituted by a member selected from the group comprising a carbonic acid derivative, a keto group and a nitrile group; ; R, R and R may be the same or different and each is selected from one of the following groups: (a) R; (b) a halogen; and (c) hydrogen, a substituted or unsubstituted C1-C10 alkyl, a substituted or unsubstituted C5-C20 aryl group, a substituted or unsubstituted C1-C10 alkyl oxy group, a substituted or unsubstituted C5-C20 aryl oxy group or C(O)OR, wherein R is a C1-C20 hydrocarbon group; with the provisos that: (i) at least one of R, R and R is selected from group (b); and (ii) in the activator of Formula I, all of the following are not satisfied: R is a C1-C6 alkyl group, R is a C1-C6 alkyl group or C1-C6 alkoxy group, R is chlorine, bromine or hydrogen, and R chlorine or bromine.
