APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR EXAMINING A BLOOD VESSEL OF INTEREST USING RADIATION DETECTED OUTSIDE THE BODY Abstract of the Disclosure Particulate sources of signal which can be detectedoutside the body of a patient are introduced into the circulatingblood and are tracked in three dimensions in the region of theheart using suitable detectors disposed about the patient's chest. This permits the sequence of positions of each particle to berecorded as a function of time as each particle flows through acoronary vessel. Data analyses of these recordings of particlepositions provide information about the velocity of blood flowthrough the course of each coronary artery. This velocityinformation is used to determine the extent, severity and locationof stenotic lesions of the coronary arteries.
